Simulation Estimation of Quantiles from a Distribution with Known Mean
ثبت نشده
چکیده
It is common in practice to estimate the quantiles of a complicated distribution by using the order statistics of a simulated sample. If the distribution of interest has known population mean, then it is often possible to improve the mean square error of the standard quantile estimator substantially through the simple device of meancorrection: subtract off the sample mean and add on the known population mean. Asymptotic results for the mean-corrected quantile estimator are derived and compared to the standard sample quantile. Simulation results for a variety of distributions and processes illustrate the asymptotic theory. Application to Markov chain Monte Carlo and to simulation-based uncertainty analysis is described.

Estimation of E(Y) from a Population with Known Quantiles
‎In this paper‎, ‎we consider the problem of estimating E(Y) based on a simple random sample when at least one of the population quantiles is known‎. ‎We propose a stratified estimator of E(Y)‎, ‎and show that it is strongly consistent‎. ‎We then establish the asymptotic normality of the suggested estimator‎, ‎and prove that it ...
متن کاملParallel Sequential Estimation of Quantiles During Steady State Simulation
Simulation results are often limited to mean values, even though this provides very limited information about the analyzed systems’ performance. Quantile analysis provides much deeper insights into the performance of simulation system of interest. A set of quantiles can be used to approximate a cumulative distribution function, providing full information about a given performance characteristic...
متن کاملInference on Pr(X > Y ) Based on Record Values From the Power Hazard Rate Distribution
In this article, we consider the problem of estimating the stress-strength reliability $Pr (X > Y)$ based on upper record values when $X$ and $Y$ are two independent but not identically distributed random variables from the power hazard rate distribution with common scale parameter $k$. When the parameter $k$ is known, the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE), the approximate Bayes estimator and ...
متن کاملSteady-state quantile estimation
Steady state simulation is used to study long-run behavior. Usually only the expected value of the steady state probability distribution function is estimated. In many cases quantiles of this distribution are of higher interest. In this paper a new usage of quantile estimators is proposed, which is derived from mean value analysis and is based on multiple independent replications. The advantage...
متن کاملSequential Estimation of Quantiles
Quantiles are convenient measures of the entire range of values of simulation outputs. However, unlike the mean and standard deviation, the observations have to be stored since calculation of quantiles requires several passes through the data. Thus, quantile estimation(QE) requires a large amount of computer storage and computation time. Several approaches for estimating quantiles in RS(regener...
